This interactive book experience invites you to take a look into my mind, where you see the various collections I had through childhood, adolescence, and adulthood. In the box, there is a book, an empty photocard book, stickers, and some of my trinkets. Once you’ve read the book, the reader can “collect” my items by tearing out the perforated sections and inserting them into the sleeves of the empty photocard book. You can then decorate the book with stickers, like I once did in my childhood.&nbsp; Creating this book helped relieve some of the anxiety I had with using and losing things. While collecting is a source of comfort, it’s nice to let go. To the end of an era! (Kind of... Remembering my experience growing up in the church, one of the most poignant elements was the food. Every week, members of the congregation made one of six dishes, cycling through them for all the years I attended, from 2001 to 2019.&nbsp; Modeled after the church bulletin, this book mirrors both a menu and my monotonous weekly routine. The book block features vellum and paper pages, to further express the repetitive lunches, broken up by my exasperated reactions. Although Korean and English are mixed throughout the book, it’s okay if you can’t understand, because I didn’t growing up, either. As a Korean American, one of the biggest connections I have to my culture is food—giving reason to why I looked most forward to lunch, something I didn’t necessarily need the skill of language for. Always craving a sense of connection with others, I became obsessed with personality classifier quizzes. This gave inspiration to the topic of this broadsheet.&nbsp; Focusing on the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI), the broadsheet explores if this quiz method is truly accurate, its history, and why humans obsess over it.&nbsp; Ultimately, researchers conclude that while these quizzes are fun, they are far from accurate. How can we narrow down every unique person in the world into 16 different personalities? This asthma action plan (AAP) booklet, a work still in progress*, is an educational document meant to be taken home with patients ranging from 12 to 80 years old whom are diagnosed with asthma. Created in collaboration with patients, providers, and researchers from the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis and the Health Communication Design Studio, our AAP takes a human-centered approach to teaching patients about how to take care of their asthma. Unlike typical AAPs, which are text heavy and overwhelming, we focused on providing accessible, inclusive, easily digestible, and visually compelling information and illustrations that cater to patients of all reading levels and backgrounds. Diverse figures are illustrated throughout to better represent the St. Louis community. We also hope to create versions with different languages.&nbsp; This document is pocket-sized, designed to be kept in your backpack or purse. Our hope is for patients to hold onto and use this to monitor their asthma. We’ve also created a letter sheet version in both color and black and white for easy printing. This booklet will be distributed to clinics throughout St. Louis (for now 😇️). Krishnan. My senior capstone project, HYO, is a culmination of of all my interests: design, illustration, craftsmanship, and Korean folklore. HYO is the Korean term for “filial duty.”&nbsp; While pursuing my second major in East Asian Studies, I learned through traditional Korean folktales what it meant to be an honorable child to my parents. My grandparents moved in with my family when I was 13 years old, so I had seen glimpses of this flilial piety in my parents, but I was only able to attach a word to it as a college student. HYO is something I want to honor in my own life. While I have a long ways to go, I dedicated this book to my parents to thank them for raising me and supporting me thus far.&nbsp; This illustrated book contains three traditional Korean folktales, all discussing different angles of HYO. All illustrations are made out of cut paper, and feature animal characters to add to the whimsy and playfulness of the overall book. While playful, this book is intended for an audience of all ages, as it covers a topic that we can reflect on at any point in life.&nbsp; Photos of the original cutouts and exhibition display are After I moved out of my apartment, my close friend moved in. It surprised me how much changed with the room, even though the only difference was our different belongings. Our items shape our space, and they are a reflection of us.&nbsp; Featuring a heavily layered vellum cover that only shows a full space in the light, two separate excerpts from Georges Perec interact with each other and household objects.
